Why Business-to-Human (B2H) Is Reshaping Brand Strategy

Whether making sales or building partnerships, brands have long operated under two trading styles, Business-to-business (hereinafter ‘B2B’) and business-to-consumer (hereinafter ‘B2C’) transactions.

However, since 2022, the rise of Business-to-Human (hereafter ‘B2H’) has gradually become significant, showing that every transaction and decision involves a real person.

What Is the B2H Framework?

B2H means that behind every business transaction sits a human with personal needs and responsibilities.

It pushes brand strategy from rational statistics and logical numbers towards human needs: empathy, trust, and certainty.
This approach gives people confidence in their decisions, whether purchasing or signing a contract.
It turns branding into a protective advantage for professional reputations and long-term value.

Why Modern Branding Strategy Needs B2H

B2H combines B2B and B2C approaches by recognising that people’s emotions are the ultimate target and focusing on human needs, ethics and values.

Here are five key benefits.

1: Protect and Sustain Brand Value

A brand can build a sustainable reputation in relationships as well as financial wellbeing by prioritising empathy and showing care.

A discount-led sale generates revenue for a single quarter, providing a quick fix.

However, there is a risk of drawing bargain buyers rather than loyal target customers by racing to the bottom.

A relationship built on genuine care brings the customer back, and they may also bring others with them. Letting customers talk about the brand is vital. This secures the brand’s prestige for years.

2: AI Discoverability (AEO)

Nowadays, more search results are dominated by AI answer engines.

AIs do not click on ads; they suggest brands by drawing on stories, names, and associations embedded in their training.

When a brand tells a story that resonates with people enough to be remembered, it is shared and talked about, and those evolving human exchanges feed the data that shapes future AI answers.

If the brand cares about what customers need and could answer their questions, that also feeds into AI search engines and builds a discoverability advantage.

Algorithms no longer rely on keywords; it’s resonance and an answer. This is the shift, and the B2H approach is ready to cover it.

3: Humans’ Competitive Advantage: Tacit Knowledge

B2H reads the emotional gaps that machines and AI cannot.

Explicit knowledge, such as data, manuals, and specifications, is easily copied and offers little lasting advantage.

Tacit knowledge picks up on a customer’s true pain points, often left unsaid since not everyone speaks up directly. It can identify subtle nuance, unwritten convention, and atmosphere earned through experience.

It comes into its own when reading a customer’s cultural and situational context. What does their “no” really mean? What was the “temperature” of that discussion?

McKinsey’s 2026 State of Marketing Europe report finds CMOs prioritising AI for explicit tasks such as media optimisation and content scaling, while branding returns to trust and emotional connection, the currency data alone cannot decode.

4: Building Relationships through Storytelling

Traditional B2B models mainly focus on competence: “Can you do the task?” The transaction can check the facts, figures, and translation, but this doesn’t reduce the risk a buyer feels in a complex, high-stakes decision.

B2H lets customers ask a deeper question: “Do you care about me?”, creating depth in a relationship over time.

It relies on human connection, attitude and situational understanding.
This means telling a story supported by factual data that is framed around what customers need and presented in a memorable and shareable way.
Storytelling must combine authenticity and transparency. Rather than saying ‘Please listen to me’, it should say ‘I care about you, and here is what you asked for’.

5: Mitigating Risks and Building Trust

The first instinct is to avoid the project going wrong in business, and also no customer wants to regret a purchase.

B2H has its Three Pillars of Trust, based on the idea that every decision is ultimately made by a person with feelings, needs, and a wish for stability.

Functional Trust

Proof that a brand has the expertise and tools necessary to carry out the job correctly and reliably.

Relational Trust

Being on the side of the person you work with, built through genuine consideration, responsiveness, and commitment to the relationship.

Integrity Trust

The behaviour of a company is defined by transparency, ethical conduct, and consistency between its stated values and its actual behaviour, and it builds like a habit, through consistent, intentional practice rather than a single campaign.

According to modern behavioural science associated with Harvard Professor Gerald Zaltman, 95% of decisions are subconscious.

AI and automation are not going away. Nor is the human need for care and conscious relationships, on which decision-making and trust depend. Incorporating conscious transactions into a brand’s strategy can protect its value as the world continues to automate.
